Facts About Rain Gardens

I recently wrote a blog about my rain garden, and discovered some additional facts:

  • In fact, the local DNR (Department of National Resources) loves rain gardens. I checked their website for “approved” and “recommended” plants. All plants I used are local to the area and recommended except for the Egyptian papyrus, which is native to the Nile River and an annual rather than a perennial.
  • The DNR gives grants for devising practical use of dry creeks and rain gardens near Wisconsin’s waterways. My landscaping service informed me that my project would be eligible. I was not willing to wait, though, for the wheels of government bureaucracy to spin for two years or so. Obviously, I wanted to get going right away.
